TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - Three representatives of the Lapindo mud victims plan to go to Jakarta on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, to report to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over compensation that has not been paid by Minarak Lapindo, the company that causes the mudflow incident, for more than eight years.
The representatives will ask SBY to pay for the compensation using funds from the state budget and Minarak Lapindo Jaya will pay the compensation later to the state.
One of the representatives, Djuwito, said that they should have gone to Jakarta on Monday, September 8, 2014. The representatives will be accompanied by a lawyer named Musyfiq. "We will depart at 06:00 AM [Western Indonesia Time] and meet Mr. SBY at the Presidential Palace at 10:00 AM," said Djuwito on Monday.
Djuwito claimed to have no information on why their departure was delayed. He said that he and the other representatives only follow orders from the Sidoarjo Mud Mitigation Agency (BPLS) steering council, which consists of East Java Governor Soekarwo and Sidoarjo Regent Saiful Illah. "The most important thing is that we go to Jakarta and file our demand," he said.
