TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government plans to have another meeting on Sunday, September 7 2014, about the construction of Jatigede Dam in Sumedang, West Java.
Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works Mudjiadi said that the meeting would discuss measures to accelerate the construction of the dam.
“The meeting is to be attended by officials from Coordinating Ministries, West Java Governor, and ministers overseeing economic affairs,” he said on Thursday, September 4, 2014.
Midjiadi added that the construction of the dam was initially scheduled in September 2014. However, he said that the project was delayed due to the land acquisition problems and residents that have not been relocated.
At least more than 10,000 residents still live in the areas where the Jatigede Dam will be built.
“Funds for land acquisition will be taken from the State Budget and it is waiting for the Presidential Regulation as the legal umbrella,” he said.
Mudjiadi also said that the government has been taking measures to accelerate the construction of the dam and to immediately function it as flood control in an area covering 11,000 hectares.
He further said that in addition to waiting for the presidential regulation, another factor that caused the delay of the construction concerns the moratorium done by the Forestry Ministry.
“All land conversion measures have been stopped while waiting for the new government,” he said.
