TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Chairul Tanjung has encouraged businessmen to optimize project funding from non-banking agencies. "Non-bank agencies must be explored, including for infrastructure," he said on Thursday.
Chairul said people’s trust on storing their money in non-banking agencies is increasing. Availability of funds in non-bank agencies can become alternative for investors in obtaining capital sources.
The instruments that can be used to fund businesses include bond and sales of shares. "The point is, the initiative to use funds outside banks must be promoted," said the minister.
Chairul predicted that in the future, banks will become more varied in distributing capital. However, they will have smaller percentage of capital.
Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) complained of low people’s participation in rolling in their money through stock markets. There are only 400 capital market investors in Indonesia while financial literacy is only 22 percent.
