TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is currently reviewing five cabinet options offered by the transition team. First, the number of ministries is 34 units or the same as the current number.
Second, reduction of ministries to 27. Third, the number of ministries is 20-24. Fourth, Trisakti ideology-based ministry. Five, the combination of the previous four options.
Transitional team's deputy Andi Wdjajanto said there had yet to be any discussion on the downsizing of the cabinet. "What has been discussed is the 34-ministry option," said Andi yesterday. "We’re waiting for an instruction from Mr. Jokowi whether he will discuss the other options."
The first option does not need new budgeting because from infrastructure and employment aspects, it needs no additional budget. "The point is, 19 ministries will stay as they are while there are three new proposed ministries," said Andi.
The newly-proposed ministries are the Population Ministry, the Agrarian Affairs Ministry and the Creative Economy Ministry. "The rest can be separated from one ministry to become two ministries. The education and culture ministry can be separated into two ministries, or merging of ministries."
