TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surakarta National Pharmacy Academy held ‘Jamu Solo Festival’ in Manahan Stadium, Surakarta. Agil Novianto, the coordinator of the event, said that there were mass Jamu (traditional herbal drink) drinking and jamu booths opened by many villages in Surakarta.
“We invite people to drink beras kencur (a type of herbs) together. Beras Kencur is the most favored type,” said Agil on Sunday.
There were 30 booths opened that offers several of the traditional herbal drinks such as beras kencur, kunyit asem, and gula asem. Fifteen out of all booths represented an administrative village and was allowed to serve their own mix of herbs.
According to the Head of Surakarta Health Agency Siti Wahyuningsih, the benefit of jamu has been known for generations and is proven in efficacy. However, Siti reminded the vendors to maintain the hygiene during the making process and serving.
