TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ‘German Cinema’, a German film festival that presented many good movies from the beautiful country was also held here in Indonesia. The films were made by Germany film makers have put on their films stories that are poetic, humorous, or emotion-stirring.
As many as 14 films were screened free of charge in the third annual event. This year, the festival held by Goethe Institute was held in nine cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Aceh, Palu, Balikpapan, Denpasar, and Makassar.
“In addition to gain appreciations and recognitions, the selected films are expected to convey messages related to Indonesian audiences,” said Katrin Sohns, the Head of Cultural Program of Goethe Institute.
Most of the films were the debut work of the film directors. Among the films are Meeres Stille (Silent Sea) which is the first long movie of young director Juliane Fezer, Das Merkwurdige (The Strange Little Cat) by Ramon Zurcher, and Oh Boy by Jan Ole Gerster.
