TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The construction of the capital’s much-anticipated mass rapid transit (MRT) project has now entered the casting stage at the would-be MRT station at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout.

Dono Boestami, the director of city-owned project operator PT MRT Jakarta, said that his company had prepared a number of strategies to keep the project on the move despite the increased rainfall intensity from the imminent rainy season.

He said the pattern for the walls of the station—which has been dug in at the depth of 1.2-1.5 meters—had been filled with water mixed with polymer. “The liquid will function as protection to prevent the soil from eroding,” he said on Friday night, August 29, 2014.

Dono said the company also used enhanced concrete with stronger water-resistant capacity and would keep an eye on the water level at the West Flood Canal (KBB) that flowed near the Dukuh Atas Station and Hotel Indonesia Roundabout Station. “We have also prepared water pumps ready for use anytime.”

Dono explained his company and contractors had also gathered data of the annual rainfall intensity. “We have also checked that the drainage condition around the project site is good,” he said.
