Jokowi Visits MRT Project Along With Former Japanese PM

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo visited the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Hotel Indonesia Roundabout (Bundaran HI) on Monday, September 1. Jokowi was accompanied by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda.
Jokowi and Yasuo Fukuda observed the underground station development. The underground station is now in its wall casting stage. Jokowi and Fukuda visited the MRT site for only 10 minutes. The two then held a meeting discussing infrastructure projects and cooperation of the two countries.
“We want to discuss investments in Indonesia, whether for sea, train and MRT infrastructures,” Jokowi told reporters in City Hall. Jokowi believes that cooperations between Indonesia and Japan will be stronger in the future.
Fukuda thinks that the MRT project will bring a positive impact. Not only for Jakarta, but for Indonesia overall. “I have conveyed that I will invite Mr. Jokowi to Japan,” he said.
The MRT project is divided into two stages. The first development stage of MRT is Lebak Bulus- Bundaran HI routes along 9.8 kilometers started on October 2013 with a target completion in 2017. During the first stage of development, Japan gave funding as much as Rp14.3 trillion.
The second development stage is for routes to Bundaran HI-Kampung Bandan along 5.9 kilometers will start in 2017. In the second stage, it will require a budget of Rp13 trillion. For this route, its targeted to operate in 2020.
