TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - – Anti-corruption presiding judge Matheus Samiadji on Monday, September 01, 2014, has sentenced inactive Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah to four years in prison and a fine of Rp200 million (US$16,700). The sentence was lighter than the 10 years sought by the prosecutors.
The panel of judges ruled that Atut was actively involved in rigging the election of Lebak regent by conspiring with former Constitutional Court’s chief justice Akil Mochtar, Tubagus Chaeri Wardhana and Amir Hamzah.
The prosecutor charged Atut with multi-layered indictments, including Article 6 paragraph 1 and Article 13 of the Law Number 31/1999 in conjunction with the Law Number 20/2001 regarding Corruption Crime Eradication.
Atut and her brother, Tubagus Chaeri Wardana, were arrested for allegedly bribing Akil with Rp1 billion (US$84,000) to ensure Amir Hamzah-Kasmin’s victory in the Lebak regent election.
