UN Security Council Imposes Sanction on Libyan Militia Leaders

TEMPO.CO, Tripoli - The United Nations Security Council has imposed sanctions against those involved in the recent violence in Tripoli and called for a ceasefire in Libya.
Quoted from BBC on August 27, the Security Council has been alarmed by the increase in fighting between militia groups Zintan and Misrata. In recent clashes, Misrata seized control of the Tripoli International Airport while other cities are under control of the Libyan interim government and Islamic militia group.
The Security Council has also agreed to impose sanctions against individuals that threaten Libya's security and supporters of the militia groups. The sanctions consist of asset freezing, travel bans and arms embargo.
The sanctions will be imposed on leaders of each militant group involved in the civil war.
Libya's ambassador to the UN Ibrahim Dabbashi, warned the Security Council on Wednesday that the situation in Libya had "become even more complicated and the situation might unravel into a full-blown civil war if we're not very careful and wise in our actions."
