TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United Development Party (PPP) deputy chairman Emron Pangkapi said his party would remain in defeated presidential ticket Prabowo-Hatta-led Red and White coalition. “No matter how bitter the decision-making process is, we will still support the decision of the coalition,” said Emron on Tuesday.
Emron said pressures for the PPP to join the Jokowi camp mainly came from PPP senior politicians and regional leaders as it would benefit the party politically. “Not to mention that [the party's support for] Jokowi and JK was decided in the national conference [on February 9] in Bandung," he said.
However, the decision was revoked in the wake of tensions within the party, which finally decided to throw its weight behind the Red and White coalition.
Even so, a decision could not yet be made as the PPP could not take a political stance until its national leadership meeting (Mukernas) was held in response to the recently announced ruling from the Constitutional Court (MK). "At least until Rapinas is held," he said.
PPP is currently still siding with the Prabowo-Hatta ticket, along with the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, the Democrat Party, the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Crescent Moon Party (PBB).
