Revealing Customers Data, Bank Permit Revoked

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) Education and Consumers’ Protection Department Deputy Commissioner Sri Rahayu Widodo said the OJK has the regulation on Financial Services companies’ obligation to maintain the confidentiality of consumers’ data. She said their obligation was stipulated on Article 2 of OJK Regulation No. 1/POJK.07/2013 regarding Consumers’ Protection in the Financial Services Sector.
The prohibition is directly related with telemarketers who often offer financial products by using bank customers’ data. According to Article 53 POJK, the sanctions for violating the regulation consists of written warning, obligations to pay specific amount of fines, restrict business activities, freeze business activities, and revoke working permits.
Sri Rahayu said sanctions given by the OJK will depend on the level of violations carried out by financial services companies. The OJK has taken various steps in regard to telemarketing offers through SMS, phones, and email, she added.
