TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama is preparing to take over Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's position as the governor and will propose two names to replace him as the deputy governor.
Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party’s faction at the Jakarta Legislative Council, Muhammad Sanusi, said earlier today that his party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will each submit one candidate for the position. However, Sanusi can yet confirm the name to be proposed by his party as the decision is the authority of the party’s central executive board.
President elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will be inaugurated on October 20. However, he has yet submitted his resignation letter as the Jakarta Governor, although the Constitutional Court (MK) on August 21 ruled out the lawsuits over presidential election dispute filed by Prabowo-Hatta.
Sanusi suggested Jokowi to submit the resignation within two weeks because it must go through the Jakarta Legislative Council before it is passed to the Home Affairs Ministry.
The new Jakarta Legislative Council will be inaugurated on Monday next week, and it would take a week to settle the organization of the Regional Council, said Sanusi. "The arrangement will be settled on Friday next week. Therefore, the resignation can be submitted after the date."
