TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Senegal has closed off its borders with Guinea in a bid to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola virus into its jurisdiction, according to AFP report.
Senegal's Interior Ministry said in a statement that its sea and airports will be closed to vessels originating from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - countries worst-hit by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
Yesterday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in a statement that the deadly hemorrhagic virus has claimed 1,350 lives in the region.
Ebola fever is caused by a hemorrhagic virus that can be transmitted through direct contact with the blood and/or bodily fluids of an infected person. To date, no commercially viable cure is available for the viral disease, which kills 90 percent of those infected.
