TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2014 Serpong Culinary Festival that is held in the south parking area of Summarecon Mall Serpong presents various kinds of culinary originating from Sulawesi island. To bring more of the Sulawesi spirit into the ambience, the organizer has decorated the parking area to look like a beach complete with Pinisi Boat and Sulawesi’s traditional building miniatures.
“The atmosphere will surely increase the visitors’ appetite,” said Summarecon Agung Tbk Director Sugianto Nagaria during the opening night on Friday.
As many as 97 traditional food vendors are participating in the fourth annual event.
“16 among the stands are dedicated to Sulawesi distinctive dishes. We bring the vendors directly from Makassar, Manado, and Ujung Pandang,” said Sugiyanto.
Visitors are invited to hunt for and enjoy the typical culinary of Sulawesi such as Cakalang Noodle of Rumah Palem, Konro Soup, Coto Makassar Cotota, Lumpia Sulawesi, Baji Pamai Pangsit, Ujung Pandang Noodle, Roasted Rica Tude Fish of Oma En, Otak - Otak Baba, and Roasted Goat.
The festival stage in the form of a giant Pinisi Boat, a traditional sailing boat of Bugis and Makassar tribes from South Sulawesi, was decorated with miniature of lighthouse and sounding the traditional music and dances of Sulawesi.
Differently from the previous year, the visitors should load the money into a special card to be used as the means of payment during the festival. The payment cards are valid during the period of festival from August 15 to September 7.
Robert, 50 years old, is one of the vendors that is having his first time to participate in the festival. Robert sells Cotota, a Makassar Beef Soto, and he comes from Makassar along with his employee and chef.
“The spices and ingredients are also brought from Makassar,” said Robert to Tempo.
Serpong Culinary Festival is an annual event that is held to promote the culture and distinctive dishes of the Indonesian archipelago.
