TEMPO.CO, Madrid - Real Madrid played a draw against city rival Atletico Madrid in the first leg match of Copa del Rey at Santiago Bernabeu.
Playing in the home stadium, Real dominated the match since the first half from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale. Atletico, on the other hand, played a harsh game, causing the referee to brandish five yellow cards for Atletico players.
Despite having a more superior squad and playing before home fans, Real Madrid failed to score any goal in the first half. The long-awaited goal came in the second half from new recruit Colombian striker James Rodriguez in the 81st minute.
Unluckily for Real Madrid, Raul Garcia scored an equalizer in the 88th. The goal came in the advantage of Atletico as they need to play only a goalless draw in the second leg at Vicente Calderon in order to proceed to the next round.
