TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Maj. Gen. Sunindyo, the commander of the Diponegoro Regional Military Command (Kodam), has asked the public to participate in keeping Borobudur Temple from terrorist attacks. According to him, the survival of the historic monument is the responsibility of both security officials and the general public.
The statement was delivered in light of a threat to destroy Borobudur Temple, which surfaced on Facebook fan page titled "We Are Islamic State".
"What would we say to the international community if that threat actually materialized?" said Sunindyo in Surakarta on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Bambang believes that an attack on the historical site will embarrass the nation, and therefore needs to be prevented at all cost.
Bambang also called on the public to work with security officials to avert the attack. "We ask the public to assist security officials in safeguarding the complex," he said.
However, Bambang admits that no security detail has been assigned to help beef up security in the temple complex up to this point.
