TEMPO.CO, Bandung – Bandung Mayor Ridwan “Emil” Kamil has called on residents in the West Java’s capital to refrain from mobilizing mobs to the Constitutional Court (MK) building in Jakarta when the MK announces its ruling on the presidential election case on Thursday, August 21, 2014.
Emil said those disappointed at the results of the July 9 presidential election must be able to accept whatever decision the MK made. “It’s better to leave the decision and the results in the hands of law and justice,” Emil said in Bandung on Monday, August 18, 2014.
Emil said he was certain the MK would abide by the law in making its ruling and that “those who are disappointed must accept the MK ruling.”
Emil also called on residents in Bandung to keep the situation conducive and desist from any activity that might trigger social unrest. “Bandung is known for having the most peaceful, safe and orderly elections. Let’s keep the city conducive,” he said.
Emil explained the Bandung Police had carried out a simulation of a police operation on the Pasteur turnpike for an hour, which aimed at securing the situation in the city post-the MK ruling announcement. “Eight toll booths to Jakarta will be guarded in layers to ward off large-scale mobs,” he said.
