TEMPO.CO, Menlo Park - Sam Lessin, Facebook's important man and former classmate of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, announced on Thursday that he is leaving the social media giant by the end of the month.
Lessin, who joined Facebook in 2010 as the product manager, said in a Facebook posting that he leaves the company with 'mixed feelings'.
"I am extremely proud and thankful to have had the opportunity to play a small role in a chapter or two of the grand adventure that is Facebook," he wrote as cited by CNET.
"This is the first time I can think of since middle school where I didn't have a very concrete next step to take in life, and I intend to not squander the opportunity," he wrote.
Lessin, now 31 years old, joined Facebook after Zuckerberg acquired file-sharing service Drop.io, a startup based in New York that was founded by Lessin. He then worked on key features such as Timeline and served other product development roles at the company.
According to a book by David Kirkpatrick entitled The Facebook Effect (200), Lessin is the key man in Facebook’s early days. The book wrote that Lessin, whose father is a well-known investor, introduced Zuckerberg to investors and executives of financial and media in New York.
Lessin mentioned in his post that he plans on living his days after Facebook by going on adventure and helping at The Information, a tech news portal that was founded by his wife, Jessica Lessin.
