TEMPO.CO, Berlin - German airliner Lufthansa and its branch company Austrian Airlines are halting flights heading for Arbil, Northern Iraq, until further notice, as reported by Reuters.
Lufthansa explained that the flights were suspended in relation to security issues. The airline added that they are trying to avoid Iraqi airspace when serving transit flights.
Before the suspension, Austrian Airlines served daily flight from Vienna, Austria, to Arbil. Meanwhile, Lufthansa served two flights from Frankfurt to Arbil every week.
