TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The news on the arrests of a number of people who have been suspected as members of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) especially in Ngawi, East Java, and Bekasi, West Java by the police's Special Detachment (Densus) 88, were criticized by Universitas Islam Indonesia's (Pusham UII) legal and human rights center advisor, Busyro Muqoddas.
He urged the Densus and the National Counter-terrorism Agency (BNPT) to be extra careful in dealing with the radical group. “Because the Densus and BNPT have their rights to deal with terrorism. It is a sensitive issue, if they took the wrong step, it will trigger the situation,” he said after holding a discussion on preventing the ISIS’ movement at the university in Bantul, Saturday afternoon, August 9.
He urged them to deal with it until it is resolved. He hoped there will be no victims of wrong arrests, which could divide amongst Muslim groups. “It is reported that the Densus found people and weapons. If it's true, it should be cleared first. Test the weapons, what (kind of) weapons, where they came from, how they ended up there,” he uttered.
