TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 200 participants from all around Indonesia has registered to participate in 2014 Sumba Expedition. The expedition is held by Hivos (Humanistisch Instituut voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking) starting from August 29 to September 8.
Not only offering adventure to live with local custom and cultures, the expedition challenges the participants to get involved in the social program of crowd funding. The Communication Staff of the Dutch non-profit organization Dewi Suciati said that the organizer will select four Indonesians and four Dutch to participate to be deployed in the villages.
“More people want to participate compared to last year. Even people from Sumba want to join,” Dewi said on Friday.
The expedition is part of the climate and energy campaign that is aimed to convert the energy consumption to 100 percent renewable energy. It also collects supports from public of Indonesian and Netherlands to provide access to renewable energy in the developing countries, especially in Sumba Island.
“Sumba is chosen because it already has infrastructures such as airports and roads to transport the power generating equipments,” said Dewi.
