TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) chief Ansyaad Mbai said there were a number of regions in the country susceptible to the spread of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) ideology, viz. Bima (West Nusa Tenggara), Bengkulu, Sulawesi, Bekasi (West Java), Ciputat (South Tangerang) and Solo (Central Java).

Ansyad said the BNPT had taken multiple measures to prevent the spread of the ideology, including the ban of ISIS. “This is only an initial step. Anyone in support of ISIS will have their citizenship revoked,” he told Tempo on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.

Ansyad added another measure was the dissemination of information to the public on the danger of ISIS ideology. “We keep on reminding people that the consequence [of supporting ISIS] is the revocation of citizenship,” he said.

He said the country would also need to maintain vigilance against the emergence of other terrorist groups in the wake of the spread of ISIS ideology. “Because they could deem the presence of ISIS as a cool breeze to continue their actions,” he said.

Ansyad said the people who appeared on a YouTube video recently and called on the public to support ISIS were the ones already on BNPT's target list. “It can be said that the people doing it are still the same. The terrorists are the same,” he said.
