TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kelok Sembilan overpass in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra becomes a favorite among Riau homecoming travelers for its charming view. Both cars and motorcycles were seen pulling out of the road to enjoy the scenery around the winding roads that run along hills and valleys.
The overpass that has become the pride of West Sumatra is flanked by green, thick hills. Thin mists fills up gaps between trees offers cool air and captivating view for travelers who want to take a break.
“The scenery is very beautiful, and the air is fresh,” said Devi Indah, a resident of Pekanbaru who was on her way to hometown Bukittinggi on Saturday.
Similar admiration can from other homecoming traveler, Yudi Saputra, who likes to take pictures in the area. Tempo observed that many of the homecomers enjoyed their times on the road side with their family plus captured the moment on photos. However, the vehicles parked on the road side continued to be guarded by the police.
Kelok Sembilan overpass was inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on October 13 last year. The road links Central Trans-Sumatra Highway and East Trans-Sumatra Highway. The overpass was said to be developed as a tourism destination.
