TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Agency for Counter-Terrorism (BNPT) has said that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) can potentially harm Indonesia. Major General Agus Surya Bhakti from the agency said that ISIS supporters can support the formation of a new Islamic nation on Indonesian soul.
"Claiming allegiance to ISIS in Indonesian soil is the same as separatism," said Agus Surya Bhakti. He added that ISIS is dangerous for it possesses radical attitude. However, Agus asked the citizens to remain calm in responding the issue and said that it is merely an over-rated concern.
Previously, BNPT Chief Ansyaad Mbai said that ISIS is included into terrorist group category, saying that ISIS supporters from Indonesia can be revoked of citizenship. The statement came after a group of Indonesians had appeared in a footage of ISIS' recruitment, asking fellow citizens to join force with ISIS.
