TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 25 houses in three areas of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, was burned to the ground. The fire happened around 7 AM Thursday morning. Debris from the fire can be seen from the location, as reported by Antara News.
Based on the testimony by Agung, a local resident, the fire burned three areas and 25 semi-permanent houses which was the home for 209 people. Agus, another local resident said that the fire was seen from one area heading fast to the other areas of Kemayoran. The fire spread due to winds and the flammable material of the homes around the area.
Agung said there were no casualties from the incident. He said that most of the houses were empty because the residents were out of town for the holidays. “I do not know about casualties but most of the residents were not home,” he said.
Sugeng, a Fireman from the Central Jakarta Fire Brigade, 21 firetrucks were deployed to put out the fire. It did not take long to put out the fire. “We deployed 21 trucks. The fire which happened at 7 AM was put out at 9:30 AM,” said Sugeng. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
