Analyst: Removed Transjakarta E-Ticketing Leads to Problems

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Transportation analyst Danang Parikesit said the Transjakarta Management Authority’s move to scrap the integrated ticket system was a hasty decision that resulted in multiple drawbacks in the e-ticketing system.
“Integrated transportation should be cheaper,” Danang told Tempo on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
According to Danang, the removal of the integrated ticket system would ensue in passengers having to pay twice after getting off from Kopaja buses. Another drawback was that passengers could only top up their e-tickets at certain shelters, which, he said, would complicate the system even further.
The president director of Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, Yoga Adiwinarto, echoed Danang’s opinion and pointed out that such policy would cause a decrease in the number of passengers.
“Integrated transportation operators and Transjakarta should sit together and discuss a win-win solution,” Yoga said.
According to Yoga, the integrated transportation could cover and serve wider areas than Transjakarta. By removing the integrated transportation system, Yoga said, people may turn to private vehicles.
