TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Traffic congestion is estimated to remain in multiple areas in the capital on the third day after the Idul Fitri holiday. The Jakarta Police’s Traffic Management Center (TMC) projected congestion would occur at tourism spots and around cemeteries.
TMC officer First. Insp. Hery Priyatno said people were visiting cemeteries to pay tribute to deceased relatives and traveled to recreational areas during the Idul Fitri holiday season.
“The favorite places are Ragunan zoo, Ancol, Monas, Kota Tua, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah cultural park,” he said on Thursday, July 31, 2014.
Hery said congestion had also begun on the road to Puncak area, including from Gadog to Mega Mendung, which saw increased traffic as of 6.30 a.m. on Thursday.
“It is estimated that traffic congestion in Puncak will remain until Sunday, until the end of the holiday season,” he said, while calling on holidaymakers to take alternative routes to Puncak.
Hery said public cemeteries in Tanah Kusir and Jeruk Purut also saw more visitors during the holidays.
