TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Policy analyst at Migrant Care, Wahyu Susilo, considered that the Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) was the agency with the worst public service. The consideration was made after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested dozens of officials over extortion cases against Indonesian workers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"The arrest by the KPK was a confirmation related to the agency’s poor performance," Wahyu told Tempo this morning.

The problem with the BNP2TKI would be the new government’s homework, Wahyu added. The agency should either be dismissed or placed under the authority of the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry.

"However it must be well-supervised, for example, by assigning a deputy minister for migrant worker placement," Wahyu added.

This morning, the KPK inspected the Terminal 2F at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, over reports on extortion against Indonesian migrant workers. The KPK arrested 18 people, including a TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces) personnel and a police officer.
