TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - When people all around the world are watching the horror of the Gaza Strip on TV, German astronaut Alexander Gerst is able to observe the conflict from the International Space Station (ISS) 320 km above earth.
"My saddest photo yet. From ISS we can actually see explosions and rockets flying over Gaza and Israel," tweeted Gerst on his twitter account as reported by Daily Mail yesterday.
It can be seen in the picture that the Gaza Strip is pitch black while Tel Aviv, Hebron, Jerusalem and Be’er Shiva, located near Gaza, are engulfed in lights. Gaza does glow a little in the picture, but it comes from explosions.
Rockets can be seen firing between Israel and Gaza, though the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said it still needs to verify the image.
Conflict in the Gaza Strip has killed around 700 Palestinians and 32 Israelis. The UN has urged both sides to make peace, but it is still far from being realized.
