TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, targeted that six new lanes of Jakarta city toll road will be finished in three years. "These six lanes must be completed in three years to solve Jakarta's transportation problem quickly," said Ahok on Friday, July 25, 2014.
The construction of the six lanes were initially planned in three stages and expected to be finished in 2022, but Ahok insisted that the project must be carried out in one stage.
Public Works Ministry Djoko Kirmanto confirmed Ahok's instruction. "The Public Works Ministry will do anything to speed up this toll road construction in just one stage," he said.
However, Djoko warned that the construction must not cause too much disruption in the surrounding area. "Negative effects of this construction must be minimized by implementing good traffic control," he said.
Frans Sunito, president director of Jakarta Tollroad Development, the company that won the auction of the toll road construction, said that Ahok's target could be achieved as long as he receives support from the regional government and if the land acquisition process went smoothly.
