TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Two Ukrainian fighter jets were shot down on Wednesday, not far from where Malaysian airliner MH17 was brought down last week in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Security Council said that preliminary information indicated the missiles that brought down the jets from the altitude of 5,200 meters were fired from Russia. However, the rebels have released claims that they were responsible for shooting down the two SU-25 Frogfoot fighter jets.
Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman of the council, was cited by Reuters on saying that the jets were shot down with an advanced weaponry, and that the terrorists [rebels] do not have access to such weapon.
Similar account of incident took place last week, as another attack took down a commercial airliner passing in the space territory. MH17, departing from Amsterdam and heading to Kuala Lumpur. was shot down, killing all 298 passengers on board. In the fallout of the incident, both Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of being responsible for the attack.
