TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arif Satria, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Agricultural Students, said the president and vice president elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Jusuf 'JK' Kalla should immediately develop strategies in agriculture.

The strategies could be about how to protect farmers and fishermen in preparation for ASEAN free market next year. "If there are no special strategies, farmers and fishermen will lose because imported products will be rampant," said Arif earlier this morning.

Arif also asked Jokowi to develop a framework and execute his vision and mission in program and budget unit which should have been stated in the presidential speech about the 2015 Financial Memorandum "so that they can be executed next year," said Arif.

Next year's budgeting must involve the new president and vice president because limited time will slow down the state budget absorption. Programs to make reservoirs and one-million hectares of lands, for example, needs planning since 2014 to be executed in 2015.

In regards to food policies in the next five years, Jokowi-JK will create new rice field by building new dams and irrigation networks connected to paddy field.

Jokowi targeted 20-25 dams in the next five years to boost agricultural production.
