TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he received a phone call today from U.S. President Barack Obama. “President Obama called at 11.00 a.m., congratulating me on winning the presidential election,” Jokowi said at the City Hall on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
He added the U.S. president also told him that the U.S. was looking forward to cementing diplomatic ties between both countries in the future.
“He wants to boost the bilateral relations,” Jokowi said.
Besides Obama, Jokowi has also received phone calls from other state leaders, including outgoing President Yudhoyono, Vice President Budiono, Singapore’s Premiere Lee Hsien Loong, and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
