TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police said they would keep out presidential supporters from the General Elections Commission (KPU) headquarters on Jl. Imam Bonjol when the KPU announced the presidential election results on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said Jl. Imam Bonjol should be cleared from supporters within a radius of at least 200 meters. He added the police had been securing the area since Monday night, July 21, 2014.
Rikwanto said the traffic flow from Jl. Cik Ditiro to Jl. Mohammad Yamin would be diverted to Jl. Teuku Umar, and vice versa. The traffic from Jl. Diponegoro to Taman Suropati, he added, would be channeled to Jl. Cik Ditiro.
Rikwanto explained the traffic from Kuningan to Jl. H.O.S. Cokroaminoto, meanwhile, would be rerouted to Jl. Latuharhary, which would also be used to accommodate vehicles from Jl. Kendal heading for Jl. Cimahi.
The traffic from Jl. M.H. Thamrin to Jl. Imam Bonjol, he said, would be closed, thus vehicles would be asked to proceed to Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and Jl. Blora.
Rikwanto said the police had also coordinated with police stations on the capital’s outskirts to ward off possible mobilization of presidential supporters from outside of Jakarta.
“Should anything bad happen, the police will be ready up to closing Jakarta. We have already prepared seals in a number of locations spanning from Bandung to Banten,” he added.
Rikwanto said the police had deployed around 10,000 personnel to the three provinces and another 2,000 to safeguard the KPU office in Jakarta.
