TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The General Elections Commission (KPU) will announce the winner of this year’s presidential election today at 16.00 p.m. at KPU headquarters on Jl. Imam Bonjol, Central Jakarta. “Both presidential candidates are invited,” said KPU spokesman Robby Leo.
The KPU will also invite campaign teams from both sides, the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Election Organizers Ethics Council (DKPP), ministries, government agencies, the Indonesian military, the National Police, election observers and NGOs.
Indonesian National Police chief Gen. Sutarman previously said he had prepared special strategies to secure the KPU headquarters when the results were announced and would deploy some 22,500 personnel divided into four security rings.
The announcement of the 2014 presidential election’s vote tally results will decide whether Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla or Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa that would spearhead the country in the next five years.
The vote recap has been afoot since the election day on July 9, involving ballots from sub-districts, districts, regencies and provinces.
Both presidential tickets have claimed victory in the presidential race based on the quick count results of their own version, which might lead to clashes between their supporters during after the KPU announcement.
