TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of international jazz musicians will enliven the 2014 Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) on August 8 to 9. The annual jazz festival will also hold special feature of Bali Jazz Summer School, a kind of exclusive jazz camp commenced from August 3 to 8.
Among the names of the international jazz musicians that are going to perform in Ubud are Gilad Hekselman Trio (United States), Erica Tucceri (Australia-Bali), Ben van den Dungen Quartet (Netherland), Deborah Carter (Netherland), Endo Seiji (Japan), dan Chika Asamoto (Japan-Bali).
“Bali and Indonesian musicians who have gone international will also perform,” said Yuri mahatma, the initiator of UVJF on Friday, July 18.
The appearance of the world musicians is expected to facilitate musical dialogue in larger scale. Yet, UVJF promised to keep its mission to be a unique, elegant, and jazz-only festival. UVJF committed to promote local creativities to the wider market by, for example, using Indonesian-made music instruments during the festival.
Designer and architecture communities are also engaged to contribute in making unique decorations made of bamboo and recycled goods.
The newly-featured Bali Jazz Summer School is held in affiliation with The Dutch Jazz Summer School in South Korea. Participation in the workshop is limited only for 40 participants and will be divided in 6 classes namely guitar, drum, piano, double bass, vocal, and flute. More information about this jazz camp can be found at http://www.balijazzsummerschool.com/.
