TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Railway Company PT KAI Semarang provided two carriages dedicated to people with disabilities. The carriages are provided on the ‘Menoreh Lebaran’ train route Semarang-Jakarta upon requests made by several organizations for the disabled.
“Each carriage can accommodate 64 seats for disables,” said Wawan Ariyanto, PT KAI’s Head of Operational Area IV Semarang on Sunday. “The carriages are designed to suit the need of the disabled; the toilet for example, is different from general carriages.”
Other adjustments include replacement of entrance steps with a device that enables wheelchairs to pass easily. The entrance also said to be more convenient for the blind.
The ‘Menoreh Lebaran’ train is an additional train specially prepared to transport homecomers during the Eid holiday. The train has economy class carriages with maximum facilities such as cabin air conditioners and GPS.
