TEMPO.CO, London - Wealthy football club Chelsea is said to eye Atletico Madrid’s central defender Joao Miranda. Despite having John Terry and Gary Cahill duet for the defense, Chelsea is in need of additional defenders to compete in three different competitions. Daily Star reported yesterday that The Blues would have a meeting with Atletico regarding Miranda's transfer next week.
The Blues are known to be lacking defenders after David Luiz's departure to Paris Saint-Germain. The club’s young players Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake are also lacking of experiences.
Despite the previous indication that he wished to leave Vincente Calderon this summer, Miranda has a 24-million-pound release clause in his contract and Atletico boss Diego Simeone is desperate to keep hold of him. Atletico had turned down an approach from Barcelona last month.
