TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Traffic Police installed four Circuit Closed Television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the traffic during the homecoming period in Bekasi. Commissioner Heri Ompusungu, the chief of Bekasi City Traffic Police, said on Sunday, July 20, 2014 the cameras were installed at KH Noer Alie, Harapan Indah, Ahmad Yani and Chairil Anwar. He projected that the homecoming traffic would start from D-5 or Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Heri predicted the number of homecomers for this year’s lebaran holiday would be higher than last year’s. He said that there would by 26,000 units of motorcycles congesting the streets starting from early evening.
Heri mentioned accident-prone spots are located at KH Noer Alie and Siliwangi since most of homecomers would pass both streets.
“We have fixed the roads and we are expecting homecomers to maintain the order to reduce the accident rate,” Heri said.
Heri added that starting from D-4, large vehicles would be prohibited from passing the streets to minimize accident rate, “except for fuel and staple foods transporters.” He revealed that the police have established 16 homecoming posts where the Public Order Police, the Transportation Agency, the Fire Department and volunteers are ready to secure the homecoming period.
