TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Economy Chairul Tanjung (CT) predicted that Yuan is set to replace Dollar as international currency, upon looking at Chinese hegemony. "Perhaps [it is] 10-20 years from now. It will get there gradually," said Minister Chairul.
CT said the growing economy of China has turned it into global trading magnet. "In numbers, they have the most citizens in the world. Soon they will be number one in economy, greater than the United States," he said.
CT mentioned that Chinese trade volume impacts the yuan rating, making the nation confident on using its own currency. "Like a graphic, there will be a graph that acelerates yuan transaction in international world," he said.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) annual report records China having the biggest trade value in 2013. Last year, Chinese trade value reached US$4.16 trillion, while US reached only US$3.91 trillion.
