TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Jusuf “JK” Kalla won an absolute victory in 35 regencies and cities in Central Java, based on the vote recapitulation conducted by the General Election Commission for Central Java (KPUD) on Friday night, July 18, 2014.
Of all the 19,445,260 valid ballots in Central Java, Jokowi-JK gained 12,959,540 votes, or 65.8 percent. Meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair managed to bag 6,485,720 votes, 32.9 percent.
“There were 223,144 invalid ballots,” said Central Java KPUD Chief Joko Purnomo in the plenary meeting on Saturday, July 19, 2014, adding that the participation level in Central Java was 71.25 percent.
In a plenary meeting held since Friday, the KPUD had postponed the decision since 23 villages are undergoing another vote recapitulation based on Election Supervisory Body’s (Bawaslu) recommendation.
Bawaslu called on another recapitulation because the previous vote recapitulation at subdistrict level was conducted on July 9, although the regulation clearly stated that it should be conducted from July 10 to 12. The reason for the early recapitulation was that the committee wanted it not to coincide with the World Cup Final.
