TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) is ranked as motorcycle producer with the highest sales in the first semester of this year with 62.3 percent of market share and sales figure of 2,625,128 units.

Based on the data by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), through out 2014’s first semester, the national sales of motorcycles were 4,216,473 units or increased by seven percent compared to the same period last year which was 3,939,825 units.

In this period, the sales of Honda motorcycles surpassed national market growth, which was 10.9 percent from 2,366,417 in the semester of 2013 to 2,625,128 units in the first semester of this year.

The high sales is due to growth in all segments which include sports motorcycles, underbone motorcycles and motor scooters. Honda sports motorcycles rose 30.3 percent after having sold as many as 234,874 units. The sales of underbone motorcycles also increased by 9.7 percent with 513,465 units and motor scooters rose 9.2 percent with the sales of 2,625,128 units.

Thomas Wijaya, deputy general manager of sales division at AHM, said the growth of Honda motorcycle sales could be achieved since consumers have an increased trust in Honda. In the future, AHM will keep launching new products that meet consumers’ expectations and are supported by after-sales services in Indonesia. "We will keep giving the best products and services," Thomas said earlier.
