TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - East Java Governor Soekarwo has prohibited civil servant officials (PNS) of the Provincial Government of East Java in using official cars for the homecoming season [during Eid holidays]. "I have signed the prohibition today concerning official cars and parcels," Soekarwo told reporters yesterday.
PNS who are caught using official cars will receive heavy rebuke, he said. The regulation will be disseminated in the environment of East Java’s civil servants.
The prohibition in using official cars for homecoming on Eid is related with the appeal of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) that stated the usage of official cars for homecoming is seen as a misuse of the state’s facility.
However, this permit has become the prerogative of the Head of Regions. Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi has allowed PNS in the Bekasi governmental environment in using official cars for the homecoming with one condition: If any damages occur, the official using the car shall be held responsible.
