TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Barcelona coach and player Johan Cruyff slammed Barcelona's decision to bring in Luis Suarez as his presence could ruin Barcelona's teamwork.
Suarez is expected to play alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi in what many would consider a formidable trio. However, Cruyff said the trio is too individualistic and will change the team's foundation that has been built for years.
"I can't see how Barca intends to continue playing the same way, with a keen focus on team play if Messi, Neymar and Luis Suárez are on the side," he told De Telegraaf on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
"The three of them are too individual. [By signing Suarez], the club is showing a preference for individual genius over a team that plays great football," Cruyff added.
Barca brought in Suarez after releasing Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal with 33 million Poundsterling or around Rp 663 billion. Barca bought Suarez from Liverpool with a transfer value of 71 million Poundsterling or around Rp 1.4 trillion.
