TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Head Abraham Samad said his institution is targeting a corporation allegedly involved in graft cases, adding that the investigation warrant would be signed soon.
"We’re still waiting for the investigation warrant. There are several cases to be investigated," Abraham said yesterday, without revealing the name of the corporations.
KPK Deputy Chairman Adnan Pandu Praja said it would be the first time for KPK probing a corporation, and an investigation team had been formed.
KPK’s plan to probe corporations had emerged when the anti-graft commission was investigating the graft case at the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas).
Experts said Kernel Oil could be charged with articles of the anti-corruption law over the corruption case involving the former SKK Migas Head Rudi Rubiandini. Legal expert at Universitas Parahyangan Asep Warlan Yusup stated that if the bribe was on behalf of the company to 'smoothen' its way in doing business in Indonesia, then Kernel Oil had committed a corporation crime.
According to Asep, the KPK should investigate whether Rudi’s bribe case was the company’s policy. Kernel Oil Indonesia’s Simon Gunawan had been sentenced three years in prison for bribing Rudi with US$700,000 under Widodo Ratanachaitong’s instruction, Kernel Oil Indonesia’s chairman.
