TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The 6th Pasar Kangen Yogya, a cultural event held annually to honor the memories of Yogyakarta traditions, is slated to take place from August 18-24, 2014 at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta.

“The highlights of Pasar Kangen ecompass traditional culinary, handicrafts, and traditional arts of Yogyakarta,” said Sri Eka Kusumaningayu, the chairperson of the Pasar Kangen Yogya organizer committee, on Thursday, July 10, 2014.

According to her, the committee will feature 45 pavilions to showcase a variety of traditional culinary and handicrafts plus 25 traditional art groups during the event. Among the traditional culinary are hawug-hawug, tiwul, lopis ketan, wedang uwuh, cenil, arak keeling, gatot, and tempe bacem.

Sri said the handicrafts exhibited at the event were those popular in the past, such as wayang kudus, wooden masks, miniatures of keraton soldiers, akik rings, and clothing with old-fashioned motifs. 

Pasar Kangen public relations spokesperson Eko Nuryono said those willing to participate in the event could register at the Pasar Kangen secretariat at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta.

"The registration will be open beginning July 14-24. The prices are affordable and people of all communities are welcome to enliven this activity,” he said.
