TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Currency transaction is predicted to increase ahead of Lebaran, with the highest increase in Java Island. "[Currency transaction] will increase, especially in West Java, Central Java and East Java," Bank Indonesia spokesman Tirta Segara told Tempo on Thursday, July 10, 2014.
According to Tirta, the volume of money withdrawal from ATM ahead of Lebaran in the three provinces could increase by 60 percent compared to regular months. Transaction will peak in mid-Ramadhan, which coincides with weekend.
Tirta said that the increasing money transaction is due to the fact that the three provinces are the main destinations for the homecoming season. In order to anticipate the increasing amount of transaction, Bank Indonesia has briefed commercial banks and prepared Rp50 trillion.
