TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto and his running-mate Hatta Rajasa to maintain the present safe situation after the presidential election on July 9.
The president conveyed this request in a meeting with Prabowo and Hatta at his private residence in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday night, July 9, 2014.
“The president asked us to maintain peace and avoid horizontal conflict,” said Prabowo, adding that Yudhoyono’s request was part of his commitment with Hatta since the beginning of the presidential election period.
“That’s also what we instructed to our team, to keep calm, cool, and restrain ourselves from being provoked and lulled by the euphoria,” said Prabowo.
In the meeting, the three figures also discussed the quick count results carried out by multiple pollsters. “We talked about the contradicting quick count results,” Prabowo said. “We have our own references and the other candidates certainly have their own.”
Prabowo said he already made an official statement regarding the quick count results. “The President has also observed our statement that we abide by the law and regulations,” said Prabowo.
During the meeting, Prabowo and Hatta were accompanied by Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie, United Development Party deputy chairman Djan Faridz and National Mandate Party’s central board chief Zulkifli Hasan.
