TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta administration is installing the electronic gates for the capital’s much-anticipated electronic road pricing (ERP) system on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Rasuna Said as it planned on putting the system on trial beginning mid July.
“The device was installed last month on Jl. Sudirman, followed by Jl. Rasuna Said this week,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency chief M. Akbar in Jakarta on Monday, July 7, 2014.
According to plans, the ERP trial will kick off on July 15 on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Rasuna Said, carried out by PT Kapsch and Q-Free consortium, respectively.
“There won’t be any charge, we just want to test whether the system works well,” Akbar said. He added the first stage of the ERP trial would involve the installation of On Board Unit (OBU) devices on some 50 vehicles.
“We will see then whether the system can detect vehicles that are not installed with OBU, how many vehicles enter the roads, and whether OBU can record the transactions,” he said.
